$7,300

This painting was inspired by the gift of the last heir to the Pacheco family. They were historic landholders from Spanish days, their holdings encompassing the land around San Luis Reservoir, near Los Banos. Ms. Pacheco left 7,000 acres for a State Park, but stipulated it would be self supporting. The land is grazed and has many electricity generating windmills. So far, the Park more than pays for itself. What was also mandated is that horses would always be allowed to use the park. This because she was an endurance rider and loved Arabian horses.

This is a big painting, and I tried to capture the huge grassy and oak studded hills, the deep canyons, just out of view and the rocky chapperal covered ridge line. The grassy hillside have outcrops of shale. Most of the oak trees are Valley and Blue Oaks. The view looks south. North is HWY 152. East is San Luis Reservoir. West is Morgan Hill and HWY 101.
